Outstanding VFX in Broadcast Series: Battlestar Galactica - Michael Gibson, Gary Hutzel, Dave Morton, Jesse Toves.

Looks like it is Avatar's night. Avatar takes Outstanding Matte Paintings in a Feature Motion Picture.

Outstanding Created Environment in Broadcast Program/Commercial: V - Trevor Adams, Chris Irving, David Morton, Chris Zapara.

Outstanding Visual Effects in a student project: They Will Come to Town. Amazing! Big applause. German film maker Thilo Ewers.

Video Game trailers even get their time in the sun here at the VES Awards. Outstanding VFX in Video Game Trailer: HALO 3: ODSTT, and the winners' names are Ryan Meredith, Robert Moggach, Michael Pardee and Jens Zalzala.

Congrats to Robert Sethi for his win. Outstanding Animated Character in Broadcast Commercial. 'AMF Caterpillar'.

Outstanding Animated Character Live Action Feature: AVATAR Neytiri - Andrew R. Jones, Joe Letteri, Zoe Saldana, Jeff Unay. Now that's cool.

Joe
Letteri has made a point that Cameron made all the pieces of film
making work together now. Actors, artists, animators and film makers.

Pixar's Carl' has won the Outstanding Animated Character Award. Carmen Ngai, Brian Tindall, Ron Zorman and Ed Asner for the voice.

Pixar president Ed Catmull is presented with the Meier Award, and gives an impassioned speech. "He is a trusted leader." There's a standing ovation for him.

Outstanding Created Environment in a Feature:
AVATAR - Shadi Almassizadeh, Jessica Cowley, Dan Cox, Ula Rademeyer,
Eric Saindon. OK Now Tom Arnold is on stage giving a huge introduction
about James Cameron, calling our industry 'super nerd stuff'.
Apparently the quote of the night up to now was a thank you to Cameron,
on being hired for 'True Lies', he said 'Thank you for being such an
A$$$%# to Fox.'

OK, Time for James Cameron to be awarded his Lifetime Achievement Award

The prize for Outstanding Effects Animation in Animated Feature goes to 'Up' Alexis Angelidis, Eric Froemling, Jason Johnston, Jon Reisch.

Outstanding Animation in an Animated Feature Motion Picture
again goes to 'Up' Gary Bruins, Pete Docter, Steve May and Jonas
Rivera. With thanks to Avatar for not having a nomination in that
category... The Compositing Award went to Janeen Elliott, Simon Hughes, Hamish Schumacher and Shervin Shogian for District 9.

Crime Scene Investigation episode gets Outstanding Compositing in a Broadcast Program/Commercial and Steve Meyer, Derek Smith, Christina Spring and Zach Zaubi take the prize.

Back
into James Cameron mode now though. Bill Paxton now on stage to show
more, and there is a lot of material. People asking if it is the VES
Awards or a Jim Cameron Roast. Presents Cameron with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

The Outstanding VFX Broadcast Miniseries/Movie/Special award went to Disney's 'Prep and Landing' by David Hutchins, Scott Kersavage, Dorothy McKim and Kee Suong. Then the Outstanding VFX in a Commercial was won by Digital Domain's Jay Barton, Rafael F. Colon, Chris Fieldhouse and Ronald Herbst for Audi 'Intelligently Combined'.

Outstanding Supporting Visual Effects In A Feature Motion Picture
was won by the crew of 'Sherlock Holmes' (Dan Barrow, Jonathan Fawkner,
David Vickery and Chas Jarrett) Go Chas! Thanks for the headsup!

Best Single VFX shot.
In the field there was the 2012 plane escape, Neytiri drinking, The
Knowing plane crash, Terminator Salvation escape, among others. Winner
was Avatar for the 'Neytiri drinking' sequence. This was by Thelvin
Cabezas, Joyce Cox, Joe Letteri, Eileen Moran and most probably several
others.

Final award of the night. Amy Smart presents Outstanding VFX in VFX Driven Feature Motion Picture and AVATAR gets the award. The Weta team led by Richard Baneham, Joyce Cox, Joe Letteri and Eileen Moran.
